Jackson Square

Jackson Square is at the heart of the famous French Quarter and despite it's popularity, maintains a state of tranquility with it's neat lawns and blazing flowerbeds.   Bordering the square are St. Peter, C  Chartres and St. Ann streets: street vendors, artists, magicians and musicians.  The square is famous for its statue of Andrew Jackson on horse bearing the inscription "The Union Must and Shall be Preserved" dating back to pre-Civil war.

In the area is the beautiful Saint Louis Cathedral .   Famed for its architectural beauty, the cathedral is where Andrew Jackson laid his sword on the altar in thanks for victory at the Battle of New Orleans.  The cathedral is also where famed voodoo queen Marie Laveau was baptized and married.
